Week Twentyfour - End of Part 1

This week we had our exams for the second term, handed in the MIT report and Strategy report, and this ended the first part - core courses - of this MBA. Part 2 is about electives, chosen by each to suit his/her own requirements from this course.

After the exams, we had our career fair. A great effort by our careers team, a number of great companies present, great interactions... good opportunity. I did the rounds too, lets see where that leads to.

Yesterday we had an auction in support of charities. MBAs (full time, exec, modular) and MScs joined in some serious bidding for the items on auction, and we raised £11,798. It was good fun, and the more, umm, exotic (for lack of a better word), the more fun we had in raising the bid.

So now I am looking at a fortnight of rest, watching the cricket world cup, catching up on old friends, meeting new people, some thinking and some planning. I said I would write about my thoughts, not today, but certainly next week.

Here's to an Indian victory in the Caribbean!

  1. Hey Rahul...Too sad that India lost to Bangladesh, and that too miserably!

Yesterday's match was too-good though, Yuvraj hammered the Bermudan's all over. But the Men in Blue still face a rather uphill task to beat Sri Lanka witha good margin, and then pray that bangladesh beat Bermuda by around 200 runs. To many variables! But, then its the World Cup. I hope u get to enjoy it too there in Cranfield!

  2. Hi Yogesh!

Too many variables, but like you say, its the world cup...

Bermuda stood tall yesterday... they made themselves proud... nothing for the Indian's to celebrate really... too bad for Bermuda that they faced India when Indians had to take their case if India is to go ahead...

Lets hope things go well for us from here on... that Bangladesh, Srilanka and Bermuda sort their matches in our favour... :)

  3. Hi Rahul!
Am interested in knowing how did the career fair go? How does it look at this stage for people who will apply for HSMP only after they graduate. Also would appreciate if you could share what Automotive companies have recruited on Campus in the last 2 years
PS: I am joining Cranfield in Oct 2007. I am Rajesh Roy

  4. Hi Rajesh,

First off, congratulations on being selected for as well as deciding to join Cranfield.

The career fair was very good, we had a good mix of companies and recruiters. The bulk of the work will be done now, with we students following up on leads.

As far as HSMP is concerned, nothing has changed re the MBA provision. The process has become more tedious, that is about it. Recruiters know about Cranfield MBAs being eligible via the MBA provision, so they do not have any problems, usually. The only issue is when they require you to have a work permit before you apply, but that is dependent on company policy, so nothing that Cranfield or you can do about it.

About automotive companies, I have nothing on that in my head, I will check with the careers department and get back to you.

P.S. Please start working on your yearbook CV... it helps a lot.

  5. Hi Rahul,
Thanks for your very prompt response. I thought it might be quite a while before i see your reply to my query!

I have been a silent observer of your's and Amit blog sites and i must say that there is a lot of information there on how the life is at Cranfield. Must say, it takes quite a resolve to be dedicated to this activity. Keep it up mate! I am sure there are many like me out there who are benefitting from these efforts of yours. To be frank, information about Cranfiled is quite limited for people like us and therfore blogs such as yours, are invaluable pieces of information on what to expect. I wish you all the best in your career search efforts.May you get the opening that you look forward to.
